Care
Looking after your flowers
A few small things make the difference between flowers that fade by Wednesday and flowers that hold their full week. None of it's complicated.
The first hour
Unwrap when you're ready, not the moment they arrive. Flowers travel better than people give them credit for, a quiet hour on the bench won't hurt them.
Trim and place
A clean diagonal cut, about 2cm off each stem, with sharp scissors or a knife. Kitchen scissors tend to crush rather than cut, so it's worth using something proper. Then fresh cool water in a clean vase, filled to about a third up the stems.
Where they'll be happiest
Out of direct sunlight. Away from the fruit bowl. Ripening fruit gives off ethylene gas, which ages flowers faster than anything. Avoid sitting them directly under air con or near a heater; both dry petals out quickly.
Every two or three days
Change the water completely. Give the stems another small trim. Pull out anything tired. The arrangement will shift over the week; roses open, eucalyptus softens, the whole thing settles into itself.
A second life
Most arrangements hold for seven to ten days. Some stems will outlast the rest. Trim them down, put them in a smaller vase by the bed or the bath. A second room is part of the deal.
If something arrives looking off, let us know. Send an email to hello@bower.flowers and we'll make it right.
